Mitigation Accounting

The GHG Protocol is developing two new standards: 1) the Policies and Actions Standard, which provides guidance on quantifying the greenhouse gas effects of policies and actions, and 2) the Mitigation Goals Standard, which provides guidance on tracking progress toward national and sub-national GHG reduction goals. WRI is developing the standards through a global multi-stakeholder process.

New voluntary, policy-neutral guidelines will increase the consistency and transparency in the way government agencies, international financial/aid institutions, businesses, and civil society organizations account for GHG reductions from mitigation actions and goals.
