Dear Friends and Colleagues of the GHG Protocol,
Welcome to the July 2012 edition of the GHG Protocol newsletter. This quarter’s edition highlights the launch of the mitigation accounting project, which has begun the process of developing two new standards. These standards will establish guidelines for mitigation action/policy accounting and mitigation goals accounting and are expected to be completed in 2014.
We are also excited to announce several new developments in communication, training, and opportunities to become involved in our work. Over the past few months, we have begun regularly blogging about our work and major issues in GHG accounting. We are also launching new webinars that will make our training materials accessible globally. Lastly, please provide us feedback on our tools and offerings on our website as well as on a new accounting note.
As always we welcome your input and suggestions on all areas of our work.

Many countries are planning and implementing a variety of climate change policies and GHG reduction goals at the national and sub-national levels. As they do so, they are facing new pressures to account for GHG reductions achieved through individual mitigation actions and policies and to track progress toward GHG reduction goals. However, no international guidelines currently exist for these types of GHG accounting.
