Globally, the transportation sector is responsible for just over a quarter of total energy use. It is also a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions and local air pollution. As a result, the transport sector is burdened with concerns about energy security and environmental sustainability. Volatile energy prices, mounting local air quality concerns in cities around the world and international discussions on reducing carbon dioxide emissions have triggered robust interest in energy transitions across the transport sector.

The Baker Institute Center for Energy Studies, together with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Center for Energy and Environmental Policy Research, will host experts for a discussion focusing on the future of transportation. It will highlight topics such as technological innovation, regulation, consumer preference, supply-chain challenges and demographic transitions, and their role in the future of the transportation sector.
