Inaugural Independent Standards Board Chair Selected  

Greenhouse Gas Protocol is pleased to announce that Dr. Alexander Bassen will serve as the inaugural Chair of its Independent Standards Board (ISB), the new governance body tasked with overseeing standards development, including the update of GHG Protocol’s flagship suite of standards for business (the Corporate Standard, Scope 2 Guidance, and Scope 3 Standard). Dr. Bassen, a globally recognized academic and expert on corporate governance and sustainability reporting, is professor of Capital Markets and Management of the Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Hamburg. Governance Update 

Applications for GHG Protocol's governance closed on Wednesday, January 31. Many thanks to those who took time to submit an expression of interest. We received over 1,500 applications across the Steering Committee, Independent Standards Board and Technical Working Groups. More information about the role of each group can be found here. GHG Protocol is now working to conduct an expeditious review of the applications and will follow up with additional updates as soon as possible.     

New Blog Post: 2023 in Numbers  

2023 was a historic year for Greenhouse Gas Protocol and we are excited to share some of our major milestones from the last year. From launching two new overarching governance bodies, to administering four surveys, to adding 14 new staff members to our team, we have made significant progress towards updating our suite of corporate standards, expanded the ways stakeholders can be involved in our update process, and increased our team's capacity. This webinar, featuring GHG Protocol’s Matt Ramlow, explored how companies that produce, trade, or source agricultural or forestry commodities anywhere in the world can effectively address supply chain risks. Transformers Podcast Episode: Scope 3 and Why It Is So Critical to Reach Net Zero 

GHG Protocol Director Pankaj Bhatia joined Gilles Tisserand, Tetra Pak’s Vice President of Sustainability, Climate and Biodiversity, in a recent episode of Kaj Embren’s Transformers podcast. COP 28 Event Recording: Climate-Nature Nexus in Global Sustainability Reporting 

Alongside leaders from Microsoft, Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), WWF International, UNEP FI, and UNFCC’s Climate Champions Team, Pankaj Bhatia participated in a COP 28 event hosted by GRI exploring what's next for sustainability reporting on climate and nature. Watch the event recording.  

Value Chain Initiative Interview with Pankaj Bhatia: The Integrity of GHG Reporting 

During Climate Week 2023 Pankaj Bhatia was featured in a video interview organized by the Value Change Initiative, where he discussed the importance of credible GHG accounting and reporting. The interview also included a discussion of what reaching net zero means and what the main barriers to achieving it are. Watch the interview.
